When designing a construction programme over soft/very soft ground, consideration has to be given to gaining access onto site and the ability to maintain stable temporary works structures. It is not just the permanent works that have to take into account the poor ground conditions during the design process. The presentation will cover the use and benefits of geosynthetics within the design and construction of haul/access roads and working platforms over large tracts of soft ground. The use of geosynthetics in permanent works solutions, relevant to an earthworks structure over extensive soft ground, shall also be discussed.
