IGS UK Evening Lecture: “Ethics in Engineering”
Speaker: Boyd Ramsey.

Wednesday 1st December 2021

Lecture Start: 18:00 (UK Time)

Synopsis:
Ethics are becoming increasingly important in our world. Our human society has made and continues to make great advances in technology, communication, science, medicine, engineering and many other fields, yet the human race’s studies, efforts and energy spent on ethics, humanities and philosophy continues to decline in both scale and importance.

This lecture and discussion are an effort to reverse that trend in the geosynthetics arena. Do you know and understand the ethics policies of the organizations you belong to and the companies that participate in this industry? If you are a member of an organization, you should know what you have agreed to!

It should be stated that, with many ethical questions, there are not absolute “right” and “wrong” answers. Ethical questions and situations are proposed and the audience is asked to make their own individual decisions. However, the time spent thinking about this topic can benefit us all.

About the Speaker:
Boyd Ramsey has been involved in the geosynthetics industry for over three decades. He has held many positions within industry organizations including a term as Chairman of the Board of
Directors of the Geosynthetic Institute, two terms as Chairman of the North American Geosynthetics Materials Association, twice elected to the IGS Council and other positions. He is currently the
IGS Finance Committee Chairman and Secretary/Treasurer of the IGS Foundation. He operates a sole-proprietor consultancy based in the USA and has been fortunate to travel the world extensively.
