The 2008 Corporate Sponsor’s Golf Day was held on Wednesday 20th of August 2008 at the usual venue, Patshull Park Hotel Golf & Country Club in Shropshire. In total seven teams of 4 players representing 5 different Corporate Sponsors took part as follows: Geosynthetics, Golders, Huesker, Tencate & Tensar (3 teams). The weather was not as kind as it has been in the past however the course was in good condition, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, and some good scores were recorded.
The team competition is played over 18 holes utilising the principles of Stableford scoring in which each team member must contribute at some point but not directly from the start. This allows some of the higher handicappers to get ‘warmed up’ during the early holes.
The Tensar International team consisting of C.Brown, I.Fraser, B.Deacon & S.MacKenzie (pictured below) managed to squeeze home in front and retain the John Curtis Memorial Trophy. Another Tensar team came in 2nd with Geosynthetics Ltd in 3rd place. The best individual round was carded by Chris Foxton of Geosynthetics Ltd with a very good score of 40 points. There were also prizes for Longest Drive and Nearest the Pin which were collected by Sandy Mackenzie and Barry Deacon respectively.
Several other sponsors including Naue, Maccaferri, Coffey, Geofabrics and the BBA have submitted teams in the recent past and would be great to see these organisations, and any others, join us to swell the numbers and give a wider spread of representation. The real benefit to sponsors is that it allows you to entertain guests without the hassle of organising the whole day. The onus is on enjoyment rather than fierce competition so higher handicappers or infrequent players can relax and enjoy a day out. We will get the date fixed as soon as possible for the 2009 event and hopefully we can encourage more sponsors to take advantage of the opportunity.
